Vaio X

Ok, so I was thinking about buying the Sony Vaio X now when I am in Kuala Lumpur.

Actually I was looking on it yesterday and it really is sexy.

However, made some surfing tonight (jetalagged) and found this.

CPU Type
Passmark CPU Mark
(higher is better)
Rank
(lower is better)
Intel Core2 Duo U7700 @ 1.33GHz
743
427
Intel Atom Z550 @ 2.00GHz
323
655

As my present laptop is a Vaio TZ31 with the U7700, it seems like going Vaio X would be a major downscale on performance... :-(
So, no Vaio X for me.

Well, I just saved myself 800€ (which was the price they offered me yesterday... did never check what was included in that price as I preferred to do some internet investigation before).

Iomega StorCenter

So I have been a happy user of the Iomega® StorCenter™ Network Hard Drive 500GB (2HD x 250GB) for more than a year now.

Really happy.

Until last friday.

I mean, what's the use of a RAID-1 disk (i.e., mirrored disks) if, when a failure happens, I can not read the data because it is in some strange file format that can't be read by "normal" computers?

I have been fooled to think that my data was safe and now, when I need that safety, I notice that the only way to get back my data is through Iomegas' data recovery service (between 1000€-3000€ according to a first conversation).

I don't really get it...

Why even bother about selling this disk with a RAID-1 option if there is no possibility to read the remaining, healthy, disk?

Stupid idea.

P.s. OK, I know that XFS is supported by some Linux-systems. So, theoretically, I should be able to install Linux on my PC (or use a Linux CD) and mount the disk. However, my first intent to do so didn't work, and I didn't want to risk anything so I redraw from that intent.
